Are planning on bringing snacks or foods into the district to offer to more people than just your student? Here are some essential pieces of info you need to know first.
The District Wellness Policy has a peanut and tree nut free district policy that needs to be adheared to. It is also important that these items, as an ingredient are not the only way to expose a child. If you are making items from home, be sure to thoroughly clean all surfaces and items that you need to use and the area is free of peanuts and tree nuts. Last, people who are allergic to these items are often allergic to other items and even though a coconut is not a nut, nut allergy sufferers often also react to that. Second, because our district participates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, all foods served outside of traditional meals must comply with USDA Smart Snack regulations. This includes Grab-and-Go after-school offerings, but excludes concession stands. Every item must be tested for compliance prior to service—you can use this easy calculator to check your items:
